Exploring a bit more every day

Moving!

Well as just about everyone knows, we're in the process of moving. Actually, toward the end of the process! I'll take pictures and post them soon - meanwhile, start thinking of housewarming potluck ideas! :)

The final cell model!

The final cell model!

Grabbed a picture of our plant cell model before it went to school. It's made up entirely of plant based items (some are fruit flavored candy ... stretching just a bit!) except for the tupperware (cell wall) and saran wrap (cell membrane).

The parts that I can identify:

blue raspberry licorice - mitochondria
tangerine - nucleus
grape gumball - nucleolus (sp?)
mushroom - central vacuole (sp?)

All his idea, very cool.

There's potential here ... I hope

Christopher is taking a Life Sciences class that is really great - he loves it, and his teacher loves him. His first project is to create a "cell model" - he and his partner get to choose between a plant cell and an animal cell. They chose the plant cell, and we've tracked down most of the parts to make it.

Instant Challenge - SES 10-2009

Christopher is part of an after school club that is taking part in the national Destination Imagination challenge through the School of Engineering and Sciences this year. Pretty cool - they get to take piles of stuff and engineer items that meet specific criteria and such.

They've asked me to be their team manager. I don't think I've ever missed having Papa handy more than now!!

Corn Maze 10-09

Corn Maze 10-09

Heather brought Cole down and we took the boys to the corn maze in Lathrop - very cool place! The mazes were fantastic, as was the haunted house and the pumpkin cannons - everyone should go there someday. :)

Back to school

Back to school

As promised, here's a picture of Christopher on his first day of school here in Sac. He's going to the School of Science and Engineering (I suppose anyone bothering to read this already knows that) and so far is enjoying changing classes and teachers throughout the day. It's now week two and he got out of bed without too many threats, so maybe he kinda likes it. :)
